The Ten Commandments are more important than ever.

Introduction

Too many Christians are denying God’s commandments for a faith that does not truly love Jesus Christ. The Bible says in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”. This is said by Jesus in the New Testament and therefore, there is no dispute that God still wants us to keep His commandments. This is not the only verse that refers to keeping the commandments in the New Testament, there are many.

Understanding God

If you see the commandments for what they really are, God’s character – love in action, then you will realise that keeping them and obeying them is an act of love. The first four commandments are how to love God and the last six are how to love your neighbour. So really, why would we not want to keep the commandments? And how could we ever think that they have fallen away?

Keeping the Sabbath Holy

Most churches will agree that the commandments should be kept, things like murder and stealing are irrefutably bad. But what about the fourth commandment? Should the Sabbath day commandment, the one that begins with, “Remember…” be forgotten? Absolutely not, Jesus kept the Sabbath day Holy and showed us how to keep it Holy, by teaching about God, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, spreading the gospel, etc. It is a day of joy, connecting with God while doing His work and resting in Him. What a real blessing it is and it should most certainly be kept, from sundown on Friday to sunset on Saturday.

Keeping the Commandments for love’s sake

You are saved by grace, Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Therefore, you cannot earn your way to heaven. Thus, when you keep the commandments it should be because you adore God, you should be so madly in love with Jesus that everything just makes perfect sense and they are no longer just God’s commandments but a part of your heart and mind too.

Conclusion

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:18 – Can be it said any clearer than this? I hope not friends. I hope you take this to heart because your very soul will be nourished when you embrace God’s law as your own. It will give you the indwelling of the spirit, love and strength.

May God bless you always.
